Decoding Indian Number Plates
Let’s decode Indian number plates. We can break a registration number into four parts.
- The first part consists of two letters indicating the state or UT in which the vehicle is registered. E.g.; KL,TS,TN,MH ,etc
- The second part is a pair of digits that denote the district.
- The next part is a combination of two letters. It generally indicates the series to which a number plate belongs. E.g., TS 04 AC 9920. This number plate belongs to the AC series.
- The last part is a series of numbers. Usually, it includes four digits. It is a unique number. Vehicle owners can buy fancy numbers at RTO auctions.
